Joining Black social clubs is not just about having a place to hang out and chat, it is also about having a place where community, culture, and shared values or experiences can thrive. All too often, Black and Brown people are expected to blend into spaces that may not be as inclusive or inviting for their culture and daily experiences. They are just expected to coexist among others and be happy doing so.
Black spaces are notorious for fostering great personal and professional relationships that help build careers, connect and share resources. Plus, they offer opportunities to create positive lifelong memories that will last a lifetime. Having the space to simply let your hair down and be authentically and unapologetically you is priceless. It can’t be duplicated. For Black people, the feeling of telling a joke, knowing certain cultural references, or understanding what certain gestures mean without explanation is just a snippet of what these spaces provide.
Black Social Clubs to Check Out in Your Area
Clockout.app
As a space specifically for Gen Z and Millenials, Clockout is a community for the next generation of professionals to socialize, network, and coexist. Members can join specific groups for their industry, attend private galas and mixers, and build a network of like-minded individuals.
The Gathering Spot
With locations in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C., this private membership club is deeply rooted in community and culture. TGS has a mission to “create a world where opportunity is a byproduct of community and collaboration.” They are known to host an array of events and networking sessions that connect professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs.
Black Girls at Leisure
If you’re a Black woman looking to meet new friends and enjoy a day at the vineyard, go shopping, and more, then this is the club for you. BGAL is a community that supports Black women in creating new and healthy friendships through monthly meetups in the NYC Tri-State area. Don’t worry if you’re currently outside of their geographical location: BGAL is currently working on an app that allows other cities to join. The app is expected to be released in late summer or early fall 2024.
HQ DC House
Aimed at creating a home-like community, HQ DC House is an invite-only club aimed at fostering a safe space for Black and Brown people to socialize amongst their own. The 10,000 square-foot location spans about three floors that offer coworking spaces, a conference room, multiple bars, and a penthouse for a variety of different events. If accepted, members can bring up to eight guests every month, get access to a weekday chauffeur service to anywhere within three miles of the club, enjoy spa days, and have group dinners at local restaurants.
Black Girl Social Club
If you’re searching for a club that has both an adult and junior chapter for Black women of all ages, look no further. BGSC is a community of like-minded Black women who enjoy meetups, networking, and career building exercises. The club hosts fun outings and a podcast that shares positive, relatable content. BGSC has over 25 locations for members to join.
Forbes Blk
This one isn’t so much of a social club, as it is a community for Black individuals to excel. Forbes Blk is a community for entrepreneurs, leaders, and creators who are on a mission to make systematic changes within society. Joining their memberships gives you exclusive access to events, networking sessions, and spaces to make real change. FB uplifts and promotes the excellence of Black individuals on a larger scale by connecting you with thought-provoking material and resources.
