From Fan-Fiction to Reality: Dream Con 2024 Delivers the Ultimate Anime Experience

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend of gaming, cosplay, anime, and more with like-minded pop culture enthusiasts.

As the temperature rises and summer approaches, many people are looking forward to getting out of the house and attending their favorite concerts, festivals or conventions. From dancing in the desert at Coachella to making new experiences at the varied selection of multi-genre events. One in particular that we’ve got our eye on is Dream Con. Now in its sixth year, fans will flock to the central Texas convention to meet their favorite artist and gamers, cosplay to their heart’s content, and take part in a packed weeked of unforgettable events. 

About Dream Con 2024

Dream Con 2024 takes place July 26-28 in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center. Attendees can enjoy cosplay meetups, a career fair, gaming tournaments that include prizes ranging from $1,000 – $10,000, a King Vader Original Live Action Anime, short film festival and award ceremony, plus much more. 

Dream Con is the largest Black-owned anime and gaming convention, founded by creative collective RDC World, that brings together individuals with common interests across pop culture, comics, cosplay, music and more. Forming an epic anime and gaming experience, the sixth annual event is sure to be a weekend filled with endless entertainment of engaging panels, meet and greets, concerts, and dedicated art exhibitions. Fans also can expect to see a few staple events that include a Super Smash Bros. tournament, on-site game shows, and a cosplay contest and runway.

Badge Options:

Single-Day Admission: Friday $60, Saturday $65, Sunday $50

  • Single-day badge grants full standard access during regular show hours to Dream Con’s exhibit hall, gaming hall, tournaments, panels, screenings, and general convention space. Single-day badges cannot be resold, are non-refundable, nontransferable, and ineligible for upgrades.

Cosplay Contest

Application Fee: None/Free

Channel your favorite character and you could win some big cash! Whether you’re new to cosplay or a seasoned professional, Dream Con’s annual cosplay contest is the best place to show off your skills. Hosted by Trackhead Bree, the contest will be judged by expert cosplayers Pros and Cons Cosplay and last year’s “Best in Show” winner, Chadwick Randle (Nerdy_Builds). Cosplay Runway

Registration Fee: None/Free

If you’re not looking to compete with your cosplay or didn’t make it by hand, but still want to show it off, take part in the cosplay runway! The event, which takes place Saturday, July 27, is open to all ages. Participants under 13 are required to have a guardian in attendance. Cosplay Meetups

Fourteen cosplay meetups will take place at Dream Con this year for the following: Naruto, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, Sailor Moon, Hunter X Hunter, Attack on Titan, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Spiderverse, Marvel, Super Smash Bros., and fighting games. If you’re planning your cosplay for the weekend, the convention organizers have provided a convenient Cosplay Lineup Template.

Gaming Tournaments

Entry Fee: $10 per game

All those hours spent gaming weren’t for nothing! Join one of nine gaming tournaments hosted at Dream Con for the following titles: NBA 2K24, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS, Mortal Kombat 1, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Tekken 8, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With the exception of Mario Kart, you must bring your own controller. To register, click here.

Tabletop Gaming

If tabletop games are your jam, you can head over to Dream Con’s gaming hall to play Dungeons & Dragons, Werewolf, and Pathfinder. Signups are now open for experienced dungeon masters and Werewolf moderators.

Bae Brigade Battle Live

Hosted by Storymodebae, Dream Con talent goes head-to-head in this musical battle where your vote counts! For each round, creators choose iconic tracks and whoever gets the most hype wins. Who’s going to take the W this year?

Family Feud

Streamer Berleezy is bringing Family Feud back to Dream Con! This year, fans and creators will go head-to-head in the popular guessing game show. Contestants are being scouted on Instagram as we speak.

Comedy Show

Admission Fee: Free for Dream Con attendees

Come for the Con, stay for the laughs! KevOnStage (Kevin Fredericks) hosts Dream Con’s official comedy show on Saturday, July 27. The event features the comedic talents of Tutweezy, Roxxy Haze, and Mo Lowery.

Film Fest

Submission Fee: None/Free

Flex your creative muscle at the Film Fest presented by actor and filmmaker King Vader. The fest is open to amateurs, students, and pros; and any genre is welcome as long as the films is 15 minutes or less (including credits) and suitable for general audiences. All entries must be uploaded to YouTube publicly or unlisted. The five winning categories are Best Actor/Actress, Best Cinematography, Best World-Building, Best Directing, and Best Film. Career Fair

Entry fee: None/Free

What better way to job hunt than at a pop culture convention? Dream Con has partnered with Pearl, a career advancement platform, to create an on-site career fair that lasts all weekend. Spending the day in cosplay? No problem! The career fair is come as you are, whether you’re dressed as Luffy from One Piece or yourself. You can also submit a digital resume, which means less paper to carry around. To upload your resume and start communicating with recruiters ahead of the convention, join Dream Con on Pearl here.

The Pregame

Ahead of Friday’s after party, join music maverick Hugo Biggs at The Pre-Game: Music Showcase. Taking place on the special events stage, The Pregame features performances by Shofu, J. Mill, Drethegr8, and Juice Sama.

The Party After the Party

Entry Fee: $20

On July 26th and 27th, close out your day at the convention with Dream Con’s official afterparty for attendees, featuring DJ Taylor Senpai. You must be at least 18 to enter, and 21 or older to drink. Tickets for the after party are currently sold out.
